Looking ahead, the Southern Baptist Convention’s Annual Meeting will be held in Dallas next month, where Messengers will again be asked to consider the fate of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the policy arm of the denomination. Some Southern Baptists have expressed significant disagreement with various positions taken by previous and present leaders of the ERLC, and want to see it disbanded. Others, however, say it's essential for helping believers navigate the complex moral and ethical challenges confronting society today.
In other church-related news, the DOJ has filed a lawsuit accusing a city in Idaho of religious discrimination after officials denied an application from a church requesting a conditional use permit that would allow it to hold services.
