| | King's Birthday honours announced | The former public face of the TGA and community pharmacists are celebrated in today's honours list. | Prof John Howard Skerritt, who retired as the National Manager at the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) last year, was honoured with the Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division for his significant contributions to public health and scientific research. Skerritt was also the Deputy Secretary, Health Products Regulation Group, 2015-2023 and played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficacy of therapeutic goods in Australia. Additionally, Skerritt's tenure as an Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Canberra from 2013 to 2018 highlighted his dedication to advancing pharmacy education and research. Victorian pharmacist Robert James Dean has been recognised for his exceptional service to the community with the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division. Dean's contributions span various sectors, with his role as a pharmacist in Red Cliffs standing out as a cornerstone of his dedication to public welfare. From 1957 to 2007, Dean diligently served the community through Dean's Pharmacy, ensuring access to vital medications and healthcare services. Farag Bassili Gobran, a pharmacist from Drummoyne, NSW, has been celebrated for his extensive service to youth, aged welfare, and the Egyptian community, with the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division. Gobran’s professional journey spans over five decades, starting in 1970, and his expertise and dedication to healthcare have left a lasting impression on various organisations and initiatives.
