Peak-of-Flight Newsletter #556:

Creating A New Rocket Kit

Peak-of-Flight Newsletter

Did you ever want to know the step-by-step process that has to occur when Apogee creates a new rocket kit? Christopher Texler, our product designer here at Apogee, had to learn this as well. For this article, we asked Christopher to document the steps, so that future designers could be trained faster. And I think you'll find it is interesting to find out that there is much more work to get a kit out the door than you might imagine.

Read the rest of this week's article, either on a downloadable PDF for printing out, or on our website (great for viewing on your phone)!

Adrel DeployMax - A Single-Deployment Recording Altimeter

Deploymax Single event Altimeter

The DeployMax from Adrel (made in Poland) is the smallest, lightest single event altimeter that you can buy! It easily fits into a 10mm diameter tube and weighs a mere 0.6 grams (battery not included). It records 9 minutes of flight data (at 15 samples per second) that can be analyzed after recovery and can be used as your only recovery device deployment, or in conjunction with your motor's ejection charge to deploy an additional recovery device. Use it for small scale models that are intended to reach extreme altitudes, where weight is critical.

ProCast Mini

Deploymax Single event Altimeter

ProCast Pyrogen Mix is used for those people that want to dip their own igniters. What makes this different is that, per gram, it has at least two times the heat output and gas generation of typical pyrogens used in hobby rocketry and amateur rocketry. It is great for rocket motors that are hard to start. This is a smaller, trial size for those people that want to try it out, by redipping some of those Estes starters that don't have pyrogen on the tip.

Conformal Rail Guide
BT-70 to BT-80

BT-70 to BT-80 Conformal Rail Guide

Just in time for the new TARC competition. This special rail guide is specifically engineered to fit onto a BT-70 (56mm diameter) body tube so that the rail passes over a BT-80 (66mm diameter) tube. It is perfect for when the front part of the rocket is larger in diameter than the rear. And for extra strength, the mating surface conforms perfectly to the tube. Just a dab of glue will do to hold them on to the rocket.

Long March CZ-1

Long March CZ-1 rocket kit.

The Long March CZ-1 rocket is a 1/34 scale rendition from Aggressor Aerospace of China's first orbital rocket. This is a very challenging, yet rewarding rocket that can be used whenever you really want to impress others at the flying field. Flies on a cluster of four 18mm diameter high-thrust rocket motors. Limited supply, so order quickly.

Customer Comments

“My last purchase was 2 of the sleds kitsch for the Terrier-Sandhawk. And some random parts. Apogee is always coming up with unique items that are useful. A lot of the items on my wishlist are the custom items like the glue caddy and the tube cutting guides as well as the laser cut fin guide. Tim and his team are always quick to respond even when I expect it to be the next day or longer on holiday breaks. I also enjoy a lot of the how to videos. A company worth shopping with!”

I'm now actively seeking writers for articles to appear in this newsletter. And I want unique and cutting-edge articles because that is what you want to read, right? I realize this, so to get articles from outside writers that have the same level of quality, I'm going to have to pay a lot of cash to make it worth it for them. So I've come up with a compensation package where I'll pay up to $350 for good how-to articles.

Are you a writer, and does that interest you? That is a lot of cash! Far more than you'll get by writing for other magazines. And with over 23,000 worldwide subscribers, if you write for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter, you'll gain a lot of notoriety. Writing for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter is a great way to show off your rocketry projects and your technical expertise, at the same time as helping out other rocketeers. Imagine how great you'll feel knowing that you made a difference to the hobby.

If you're interested in writing, see the guidelines on our site.
