An impactful discovery: A false alarm that taught NASA somethingNASA briefly caused some alarm after discovering what appeared to be an asteroid orbiting the planet back in September. In the past month, researchers doubled down on learning as much as possible about the mysterious object. We now know that the strange object (which had gotten a little too close for comfort) is actually just the remains of a rocket booster from a failed moon landing back in the 1960s. And if you’re worried about it hitting Earth, don’t be. It would be too small to do any damage to the planet, and it’s actually on track to escape our orbit and head to our neighbor, Mars. It’s their problem now. It might be easy for a derelict rocket to make its way to Mars, but not one of ours. Tap or click here to see the special fuel that may be taking us to the red planet in the future. → |
