Pot of Gold Fridge Decor

By tiffanytallent1981

Pot of Gold Fridge Decor - pots and coins on fridgeI thoroughly enjoy decorating for every holiday, but I hardly have money for expensive items. And this year, my employer is having me decorate the break room as well! I decided to decorate the fridge door and to incorporate every associate into the St. Patrick's Day theme. Making pots of gold was the easiest choice and turned out absolutely adorable.

Pot of Golden Treats - candy filled pot of gold At the end of every rainbow is a pot of gold. The leprechaun left its powerful green hat that saves him from traps. By R Barbara

English Paper Pieced HexagonsI recently took a class to learn this fun, new to me, method of paper piecing. The project quickly became addictive. I have done foundation style paper piecing in the past and love the ability to work with smaller pieces to create the block, but you are still saddled to your sewing machine.

Clear Hook for Hanging a Wreath

By lalala...

hanging wreath on hookI prefer to hang my holiday wreaths on the inside of our front door. The door has a large window in the middle. I don't like the look of the over the door hangers so I decided to attach a clear Command Hook (holds 3 lbs.) to the glass. Now I can hang my wreaths and the hook is practically invisible.

Making Half Square Triangle Quilt Blocks

By R Barbara

Cutting off dog ears at corners. The half square triangle (HST) is a very common component of patchwork quilts. These blocks consist of two right triangles. Because of the stretchy nature of fabric cut on the bias, it may be preferable to make your half squares in the following way, rather than cutting out triangles and sewing them together.

Cut Thread at an Angle For Easier Threading
Cut your sewing thread at an angle to thread it through the hole easier.
Hairspray To "Fix" Artwork
Here's a nifty use for hairspray. Lightly spray a bit of hairspray (aerosol, not pump) onto charcoal, pastel chalk, or lead pencil art work to "fix" the medium in place until you can get it framed, stored, or permanently fixed with a commercial product.
Tongue Depressor Sander
Cut a piece of sandpaper to fit on the end of a tongue depressor or Popsicle stick and glue it on. Then trim off any excess sandpaper. Let the glue dry and you have a handy little sander for sanding hard-to-reach places.
Make Bookmarks Out Of Artwork
Don't want to throw away your children's artwork? I cut up my 2 1/2 year old twins artwork they made on posterboard into bookmark size strips and laminated them.
Use Waxed Boxes for Paint Palettes
Use waxed boxes for paint palettes. When working with acrylics, you can use a (washed) waxed box such as the ones frozen foods come in, as a palatte.
Save Old Makeup for Crafts
Don't throw away any old or unwanted makeup and nail polish that you may have. They are a wonderful alternative to crayons, paint markers, or coloring pencils. I use mine when making cards with stamps. The eyeshadow blends very well in place of colored pencils.

Sewing Machine Not Stitching Jersey Fabric
My sewing machine is not catching the bobbin thread when I'm trying to sew stretch fabric. It works fine on regular cotton, but doesn't pick up the stitch when I put in the jersey fabric. I am using the right needle and the machine and bobbin are threaded and inserted correctly. It seems to be just a problem with the stretchy fabric.
