Did you know that Lunar New Year kicked off earlier this week on 5th of Feb? This festival marks the beginning of a new year in the traditional Chinese calendar.
As people across the world gather to mark the festivities, discover how we can celebrate special occasions while showing our love for our shared home, the Earth! If there's one thing that connects the different festivities across the globe, it might be our love for food. However, 1/3 of all food produced globally goes to waste. When this happens, we waste not just food, but all the natural resources which go into producing it. So here’s our case on why we should all commit to avoid food waste.
What we will save each year by avoiding food waste
→ 30 years of drinking💧for every person on Earth
→ Enough energy to power over a billion homes for a year
→ Save over 18,000 km2 of forests
How we produce and consume food is the biggest threat to our planet today. But because 1/3 of food is wasted, 1/3 of this damage is completely unnecessary. A strong natural environment is key to defeating poverty, improving health and developing a just and prosperous future. So keep your bellies full but your plates empty!
If we want to feed the world in a way that works with nature, it’s clear that our food system needs to change urgently. To find out the latest on this issue and how you can help, follow João Campari, Leader of WWF's Food Practice.
