Dear John,
In a recent Chronicle report, I wrote about what colleges can do to help students forge meaningful social connections in an era when a national epidemic of loneliness has hit Gen Z particularly hard.
During the upcoming Chronicle Festival, I will speak with two experts about the scale of the problem, some major causes, and, most important, the best ways to help students overcome loneliness and improve their overall mental health.
Joining me will be Robin Holmes-Sullivan, president of Lewis & Clark College and a clinical psychologist, and Jeremy Nobel, a physician, public-health practitioner, and faculty member at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
The festival, a three-day virtual event dedicated to understanding the ideas shaping higher ed, will also look at other student issues, including ways to serve students from low-income backgrounds and how to survive the demographic cliff.
