When LSU officials said they wanted to build a new on-campus arena that would be modeled after the new, flashy Moody Arena at Texas, I don't think this is what they meant. The CEO of one of the two companies that are finalists to build and run LSU's new arena was indicted Wednesday in a federal case saying he rigged the bidding process over a similar project at Texas. That person is the founder of the Oak View Group, Timothy J. Leiweke. The indictment handed down by a federal grand jury charges Lieweke with "orchestrating a conspiracy to rig the bidding process," according to the Department of Justice. As ever, we caution folks by saying that an indictment is no proof of guilt and everyone must get their day in court. That said, federal grand juries don't just hand out indictments without a ton of evidence behind them. We'll see where this goes, but it may end up leaving LSU with one less choice to build its arena. An arena that could be delayed by all of this legal business. Speaking, in a way, of real estate deals, it seems former LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne has been denied a chance to buy her dream apartment in Manhattan by the apartment building's board. And not just any apartment. We're talking about the apartment of all-time baseball legend Babe Ruth. Dunne, who grew up in nearby New Jersey, sounds pretty upset by the snub, though I'm sure she'll find a roof over her head somewhere. Former LSU women's basketball All-American Aneesah Morrow has won the women's Corbett Award, given annually to the state's top collegiate female athlete. LSU pitcher Kade Anderson recently won the men's Corbett Award. Deserving choices both. Finally, former LSU women's star Angel Reese is debuting her new shoe on an NBA video game cover. Check it out here. Thanks for reading and subscribing as always. It's great to be back after my vacation hiatus. We'll do this again Friday for Saturday. Scott Rabalais |
