The Duke of Edinburgh was not only the Queen’s husband, but he was a much-loved and cherished figure who commanded respect, not just across the UK, but right across the world. He led a hugely eventful life, serving with distinction in the Second World War before going to become the long-serving consort in history. To mark Prince Philip’s passing, in Saturday’s News Letter we are publishing a special commemorative supplement, remembering his massive contribution to the British nation, and focusing on his important links to Northern Ireland over many years. His Duke of Edinburgh scheme has been particularly influential in Northern Ireland, where it really has helped shape the lives of thousands of young people over many years. He will be sorely missed.
