Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Shameful Democrat Spending Over the weekend, Democrats rammed yet another partisan tax and spending spree through the Senate. This bill contains all kinds of bad ideas, from enlarging the IRS to raising taxes on hardworking families. That’s why I voted no; Americans shouldn’t have to foot the bill for Democrats’ reckless spending any longer. Click here for my full statement after the vote. Prioritizing Children’s Futures The Democrats’ bill sends a whopping $45 billion to the IRS to hire more employees than the Pentagon, State Department, FBI, and Border Patrol… combined. It’s clear that Democrats’ priorities are out of line. I introduced a motion to amend their bill and send those $45 billion to parents instead of the IRS. Children across the nation are suffering from learning loss due to school closures, and this funding would have been a game-changer for their futures. All 50 Democrats voted against my amendment, choosing to fund the IRS instead. That’s why I introduced the Solidify Iran Sanctions Act—along with Senators Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.)—to make the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996 permanent. This bipartisan bill makes it clear that the U.S. will continue standing up to Iran’s dangerous regime and promoting peace throughout the world.
