Hello Humble Bitcoiners!

Let's finish off this week with a strong dose of Bitcoin signal!
📝 Today's Rundown
  • Privacy Matters: Privacy should matter to everyone, but especially to Bitcoiners interested in protecting their wealth.
  • Reusable Payment: The Bitcoin Development Kit is planning to implement BIP47 which would allow users to receive bitcoin via a static payment code and interact with more privacy.
  • Empowering Communities: Establishing Bitcoin micro-economies in villages in Peru to grant financial opportunity to unbanked communities.

🔎 PRIVACY MATTERS

So You Think You Don't Care About Privacy
By Heidi Porter

To paraphrase Edward Snowden, proclaiming that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is pretty much the same as saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say. You might not fully acknowledge it but you do have (a lot of) things to hide and say and that’s OK! Privacy not for nothing is officially recognized as a fundamental human right.

Ultimately, the more someone knows about you, the more power they have over you and the more personal information you disclose, the at risk you are. You can easily become a target because of your lack of privacy — the ultimate censorship and seizable resistant feature is privacy!

They can’t expropriate or restrict anything they don’t know you own.

💻 REUSABLE PAYMENTS

Implementing Reusable Payment Codes In Bitcoin Wallets To Improve User Privacy
By Marty Bent

The Bitcoin Development Kit (BDK) project (or Magical Bitcoin Project) aims to build a collection of tools and libraries that are designed to be a solid foundation for cross platform Bitcoin wallets.

Their latest proposed implementation consists of adding support for BIP47, which would allow wallet developers to easily implement reusable payment codes and ultimately, allow bitcoin users to interact with each other with enhanced privacy by enabling them to receive funds via a static payment code that does not reveal the actual address of a UTXO. A possible trade off could be market fees, but that remains to be seen.

EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES

Bitcoin Is Empowering Marginalized Communities In Peru
By Namcios

What started as a one time effort with a $3,000 budget to buy shoes and socks for Peruvian children facing high mortality rates quickly grew into a full-scale effort focused on enabling financial empowerment through Bitcoin.

MOTIV, a non-profit global empowerment group, got inspired after a visit to Bitcoin Beach, and is now leveraging Bitcoin to bring inclusion and hope to disadvantages communities through 15 hubs in Peru.

The opportunity has turned into creating a bitcoin community similar to El Zonte, as the locals faced similar issues with being underbanked. With education programs, locals have been empowered to set up micro-businesses, develop skills, networking in selling their crafts and integrating bitcoin in their day-to-day shops such as markets.

With Bitcoin, MOTIV is providing the people of Peru hope.

MEME OF THE DAY

By Liotta

It is time to pay taxes in many places all over the world. As a little reflection — we continually pay taxes, even as our own currency is debased. And if we are being honest, we know the official inflation number is nowhere close to the real inflation — at least it doesn't feel that way every time I go to the supermarket.

Monetary debasement is not a beautiful thing and it is the reason why I find safety in bitcoin.

Have a lovely weekend,
