Private Equity Wire hosted our latest digital summit – PEWlive Europe! It’s been an exciting week for us at Private Equity Wire, as we were joined by many of the industry’s leading GPs, LPs, law firms and other expert commentators for PEWLive Europe. Our annual European event aims to connect practitioners within the private equity space to uncover and resolve the operational issues facing GPs in an increasingly competitive marketplace. The two day event resulted in many interesting discussions, as well as food for thought on the new normal and how we move forward from here. Private Equity Wire would like to thank our sponsors, all of the speakers and everyone who joined the content-packed two day event to share their views and insights with us. Some of the highlights included an engaging discussion on ESG during the Operational Impact panel, that took place on day two of the event. Being at the forefront of ESG today means fully integrating it into the investment process rather than viewing ESG as a ‘parallel process’, according to Elin Ljung, director of sustainability and communication at Nordic Capital, one of the most prominent private equity firms in the Nordic region. The first day centred around changes currently taking place within PE firms’ operational due diligence practices, as well as the impact of technology today. The pandemic has made investors ask companies a different set of questions than they previously did, and shown how a ‘hybrid-approach’ will increase efficiency in the new normal, said Sebastian Junoy, co-founder and partner at Headway Capital Partners, speaking on the ODD panel. One of the many encouraging points brought up during the sessions included the benefits that the current tech acceleration has led to, including the migration of data to the Cloud and time efficiency gains, which in turn leads to GPs potentially being able to close better deals in the ‘new normal’. PEWire also featured McKinsey’s outlook on Chinese private equity this week. Ivo Naumann, Shanghai-based partner and leader of McKinsey’s private equity & principal investors practice in Greater China, shared his views on the impact of Covid-19 on the Chinese private equity space, as well as the ongoing long term growth trends that are continuing in this market.
