More than 30,000 consumers and small businesses complained about their phone and Internet services - with many complaining about problems with their bills and the quality of customer service - over a three month period to the end of September this year, according to the latest complaints report from the Telecomunications Industry Ombudsman.

Australia's peak body for consumer representation in communications, the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN), says the increase in complaints about internet services to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) highlights the need for greater reliability safeguards.

Melbourne firm UAM Tec (Underwater Autonomous Mapping Technology) has launched a small submarine that can map oceans, lakes and waterways to produce maps, called WaterView, much in the same way that firms produce maps of the earth.

The au Domain Administration, the organisation that manages the Australian domain namespace, will vote on a move to give its directors a hefty pay rise at its forthcoming annual general meeting, with the total targeted figure being $580,000.
