| January brings some respite for beleagured property fund flows
This week, we have news from Calastone of a bit of respite for property funds with a significant reduction in outflows to GBP78.1 million in January, their lowest level since May 2019. By comparison, some GBP328.6 million left the sector in December and monthly outflows have averaged GBP178.8 million since flows turned negative back in October 2015. One sector that does seem to be in favour, with institutional investors at least, is the UK hotel market which saw investment volumes jump 26 per cent last year to GBP6 billion, according to new research from Knight Frank. In deal news, we report on how Alpha Real Capital invested more than GBP1.1 billion in long income assets in 2019 across commercial ground rents, long lease property, social real estate and renewables on behalf of its funds and clients. We also report on Legal & General Investment Management's latest move to establish itself as a leader in responsible investing with the appointment of a new Head of ESG.
