How To Protect Your Bitcoin Seed Phrase With The Kiboruto Stainless-Steel Backup
By Econoalchemist

One of the most important decisions that Bitcoiners must make on their journey of self-custody is how to back up their seed phrase. Storing it incorrectly could literally lead to the inability to recover your funds in the event of an emergency.

🌍 Grassroots Bitcoin

2022: A Year Of Grassroots Bitcoin Adoption For Africa
By Anita Posch

Bitcoin news out of Africa has been hot lately; the increasing adoption and massive movement underway in the continent is undeniable. In 2022, Bitcoin For Fairness traveled to four African countries to promote grassroots adoption of Bitcoin and educate people about Bitcoin.

The organization was founded by Anita Posch, who traveled to Zimbabwe in early 2020 and noticed a lack of understanding and infrastructure for Bitcoin in the country. She received funding from the Human Rights Foundation and various sponsors, including LEDN, Okcoin, Paxful, Coinfinity, Breez and Trezor, to travel to Africa and spread knowledge about Bitcoin.

Posch visited South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe and Zambia, where she gave talks at universities and hosted workshops and meetups to educate people about Bitcoin. In addition to spreading knowledge, the organization also donated full node systems and wallets to local Bitcoin enthusiasts to help them join the network.

💡 Channel Jamming Mitigation

Can Antoine Riard’s Lightning Network Proposal Mitigate Channel Jamming Attacks?
By Shinobi

The Lightning Network is a Layer 2 payment protocol that operates on top of Bitcoin, allowing users to make fast, cheap transactions.

One issue with the Lightning Network is the potential for "channel jamming," in which an attacker can route a payment through other nodes on the network and then refuse to finalize the payment, effectively blocking the use of those nodes for other transactions until the payment is refunded.

In order to mitigate this issue, Antoine Riard, a developer for the Lightning Network, has proposed the use of a Chaumian ecash token, a centralized token issued by a mint authority in a way that prevents the issuer from being able to connect the token to when it was issued.

The token would be used as a form of reputation proof, with nodes along the payment path verifying the validity of the token before forwarding the payment. If the payment is successful, a new token would be issued and returned to the sender.

If the payment fails, the token would be "burned," forcing the sender to acquire new tokens in order to route payments through those nodes again. The proposal aims to add an economic cost to channel jamming attacks, which currently only have a time cost.
