It’s July 4th, and the plan was to direct you to our first-ever sitewide sale, 25% off everything, including custom pieces (something we only reserve for Black Friday). And, well, I just can’t bring myself to lead with that. Instead, I keep coming back to this quote by James Baldwin, one I’ve long loved: “I love America more than any other country in the world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.” Today, my family and I are in Spain, watching from afar as the people currently in power at home lie, cheat, and strip away the very rights that make us proud to be American. They celebrate, under the guise of “God,” while gutting healthcare, slashing food support, stripping reproductive rights, and more. They are willing to sacrifice the well-being of millions for their own glorification. It’s shameful. And, it’s not what America stands for. So yes, gather with your friends and family. Celebrate joyfully. They’ve taken enough—don’t let them take that too. But remember: it is not only your right, it is your duty to speak out. Dissent is patriotic. And necessary.
