Dear Voornaam,

It always looked like being only a matter of time...

The resignation of Michael Matheson as Health Secretary over the £11k iPad data roaming scandal seemed inevitable months ago. Indeed The Scotsman leader column called for him to go on November 17 - you can read that piece  here

Today it finally happened, just before First Minister's Questions providing the opposition plenty of ammunition in a fiery session. The number one target - why did the First Minister not sack him immediately instead of standing by him for months? In his resignation letter, Mr Matheson said he did not want to become a distraction. Which begs the question, what does he think he has been since it all blew up?

There are big questions facing Mr Yousaf, and Political Editor Alistair Grant has been getting into them here

Mr Matheson had been due to update parliament on the rise in the minimum unit price of alcohol today - stepping in following the resignation of drugs minister Elena Whitham who herself quit on Tuesday. Instead it was left to Deputy First Minister Shona Robison to deliver the widely expected news of an increase to 65p.

Meanwhile, news of the now inevitable reshuffle in Mr Yousaf's cabinet is expected before the day is out. Keep your eyes on scotsman.com

Have a great evening,

Alan
