| | Hello again, from Portland. Last week, a letter signed by 600 ad professionals of color signaled a crucial sense of urgency about racism in the industry. Led by Periscope strategist Nathan Young and consultant (and former agency copywriter and trade journalist) Bennett D. Bennett, the call to action outlines specific ways forward for agency leadership, and galvanized talent from holding company agencies to small indies and everywhere in between. In the latest episode of Yeah, That Probably an Ad, Young and Bennett talk about how the letter came to fruition, the reaction so far and what traction—and action—they want to see. “Just showing up as a Black person in advertising is bravery,” Bennett said. “Just showing up makes you a leader; it does not matter if you’re C-suite. You represent so much more than yourself.” Elsewhere, Diesel launches a new campaign featuring Harlow Monroe, a brilliant search hack for diverse talent and more. As always, we love to hear about great creativity. Feel free to send us your work, stories and ideas.
