🛒 Walmart vs. Amazon Becomes More of a Reality |
For what seems like an endless number of years, Amazon and Walmart each played in their own sandboxes. Amazon owned e-commerce and Walmart (and its subsidiary Sam’s Club) owned physical retail locations. |
Now, Walmart is putting as much pressure on Amazon’s e-commerce model as any other company. From efficient (even same-day) shipping to a slew of July deals, the retail giant has encroached on Amazon’s territory to a degree in recent years. |
The phrase Prime “Day,” singular, is as inaccurate as ever, as this year it runs July 8-11 – four days across 26 countries, both all-time highs. With $23.8 billion in sales forecast and 350 million members projected by the end of the year, it’s a great time to be Amazon. |
But the “Walmart Deals” sale is a whopping six days: July 8-13. |
With two of the largest companies that sell consumer goods going mano a mano, perhaps deals from other companies like Target will get eclipsed. Or maybe it will just turn into a frenzy. |
Walmart’s e-commerce growth at present looks eerily similar to Amazon’s in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Competition is good for us all. |
