| Musicals Ray Kennedy & Opera House Theatre Company Saturday, July 21, 7 PM An evening that's sure to have you humming along and your feet tapping when Ray Kennedy, long time director and choreographer for Opera House Theatre Company, combines his love for the Great American Songbook with a musical preview of Sunset Boulevard and Violet, his two upcoming summer productions. The music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Rodgers & Hart begins a program which has just added Beth Swindell and Jordan Davis, to join Ray presenting great standards. Wilmington theater favorites Cassandra Vallery (Norma Desmond) and Kendra Goehring-Garrett (Violet Karr), the leads in the upcoming shows will perform with Ray, along with Sunset Boulevard co-stars: Coleman Cox, Eric Johann and George Domby (just added). The standout evening is followed by conversation and Q&A. Cash bar opens at 6:30 PM

Families Kids@CAM with Bobbi Fitzsimmons Saturday, July 21, 11-2 PM No pre-registration necessary Guest artist and quilter, Bobbi Fitzsimmons, will lead an exploration of shapes in patchwork quilts. There will be quilts and books on display so children can discover all the different shapes quilt makers use to form their patterns. Children will then be able to make two quilt blocks of their own using pre-cut fabric shapes, paper and paste. One block will be to take home and one will be to add to the group quilt for the CAM. Suggested donation $5 per child - Parental supervision required at all times

Shannon Silva, filmmaker Thursday, July 26, 6:30 PM - Free event Filmmaker Shannon Silva gives an overview of her body of work, including the short narrative film Baby Oil, currently on view in CAM's North Carolina Arts Council Artist Fellowship 2017 Award Exhibition. Her feature documentary, It's A Girl Thing: Tween Queens and The Commodification of Girlhood, was awarded Best Social Documentary at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. Shannon is Associate Chair and Associate Professor, UNCW Film Studies Dept. and founder of UNCW's Visions Film Festival. |

Art Inspire Music Susan Savia
Thursday, August 9, 6:30 PM CAM Members: Free Museum Admission all others Susan Savia will perform musical selections in the galleries inspired by the work in CAM's current exhibitions: North Carolina Arts Council Artist Fellowship 2017 Award Exhibition and Works of Honor: NCAC Artist Fellowship recipients from the Collection. Savia is a chanteuse and singer/songwriter, a proficient guitarist and harmonica player. For this program she will perform a variety of original and eclectic songs using her clear, four octave voice to interpret and guide us on a journey through each song selection inspired by the art on view. |
