Plan to fly on Wednesday? You'll need a REAL-ID card or driver's license

BY VICKI FERSTEL | Staff writer

Are you ready for Wednesday? That's when you'll need a REAL-ID driver's license or identification card to board an airplane for a domestic flight.

REAL IDs are licenses or identification cards that meet federal security standards. The standards were adopted in 2005, but as of May 1, only 30% of those with IDs in Louisiana had obtained a state-issued REAL ID.

Staff writer Julia Guilbeau reports that Office of Motor Vehicles sites across the state are seeing a rush of residents hoping to get a compliant ID.

One step closer for John Foster. Louisiana singer John Foster moved into the top 7 of "American Idol" after Monday night's vote.

For "Judges' Choice" night, each finalist picked from three songs the judges had chosen for them to perform.

"George Strait is my biggest influence in music. I've been listening to him since I came out of the womb, literally," Foster said before performing Strait's "Cross My Heart."

Staff writer Judy Bergeron has the details.

Flash flooding risk: Our recent spate of beautiful weather is forecast to end later today, with the risk of flash flooding in portions of south Louisiana.

The rain is expected to continue for most of the week in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette, according to the National Weather Service.

Jay Grymes, the state's climatologist, said to expect a moderate flash flood threat for much of the state from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning and for heavy rains to continue for one or two days after in the southern half of Louisiana.
