From Nov. 18 through 20, 2021, internationally renowned extreme vocalist and intermedia artist Carmina Escobar will return to the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT) for the world premiere of her multidisciplinary performative installation piece,Â
Bajo la Sombra del Sol (Under the Sunâs Shadow), a statement on the creation of community, relationship to the environment, and ritual as a fundamental artistic tool to survive in our current historical moment.
Produced by Boss Witch Productions, Bajo la Sombra del Sol conceives of a new myth to explore the relationships between nature and humanity, the self and the collective unconscious. Structured in nine chapters, the performance traverses five sites at Mono Lake, California, during five interventions, from sunrise to sundown. The piece is experienced with an immersive installation that brings the audience on a journey towards its own shadow, including live performances interwoven with film in a multi-screen theatrical environment.
