On Aug. 18, 1993 – 30 years ago, today – Sara Anne Wood hopped on her bike on her way home from church in Frankfort, New York – and vanished. Her abductor eventually confessed to kidnapping and murdering Sara, but her body has never been found.
Sara's heartbreaking story inspired a movement, and each year hundreds now join “The Ride for Missing Children”. Riders spread awareness about the importance of child safety, and help raise money for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
In 2023, NCMEC expanded The Ride to include a "virtual option" so people across the nation can participate from their home cities. All riders are given a fully customizable NCMEC fundraising page to share with friends and family and track their progress. Join The Ride or make a donation today to help honor Sara's legacy and continue this annual tradition. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is the nation’s largest and most influential child protection organization. We lead the fight to protect children, creating vital resources for them and the people who keep them safe.
