It's been just over one year since the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan. The United States' withdrawal was chaotic and devastating to witness. In the midst of political debate and criticism, the important stories of those whose lives were lost during the evacuation can be overlooked. It's crucial that we don't allow that happen.

Motorist charged for allegedly threatening Senate candidate Evan McMullin and his wife with a gun

In April of this year, a driver allegedly threatened U.S. Senate candidate Evan McMullin and his wife with a gun as they drove home from a campaign event in southern Utah.

The man, identified as Jack Aaron Whelchel, attempted to force the McMullins off the road in Highland, Utah. In a statement Saturday, McMullin said he and his wife, Emily, "were followed, chased and threatened by a man brandishing a firearm.”

Whelchel, who has pleaded not guilty, was charged with threatening with or using a dangerous weapon, a class A misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, an infraction. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.
