Daily Digest for December 11, 2020 Posted at 7:45 a.m. by Michael Olson | Good morning. The Texas lawsuit asking the U.S. Supreme Court to invalidate President-elect Joe Biden’s victory has quickly become a conservative litmus test, as 106 members of Congress, including Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer and multiple state attorneys general signed onto the case even as some have predicted it will fail. The last-gasp bid to subvert the results of the Nov. 3 election is demonstrating President Donald Trump’s enduring political power even as his term is set to end. And even though most of the signatories are far-right conservatives who come from deep red districts, the filing meant that roughly one-quarter of the U.S. House believes the Supreme Court should set aside election results. Emmer was the only Minnesotan to sign onto the dubious suit. Minnesota lawmakers agree on help for businesses but not workers With another special legislative session set to begin Monday, Minnesota lawmakers said Thursday they agree on some of what should be in a package of COVID-19 relief, but not on the entire plan. The bill language rolled out Thursday would direct $216 million in aid to businesses, but other key relief proposals aimed at workers and families remained in flux. Biden, Harris named Time magazine's 'Person of the Year' Time magazine has named President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris its "Person of the Year." Time's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal says Biden and Harris won the honor for "changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world." Felsenthal notes, "Every elected President since FDR has at some point during his term been a Person of the Year, nearly a dozen of those in a presidential election year. This is the first time we have included a Vice President." Time's other Person of the Year candidates were President Donald Trump; front-line health care workers and Dr. Anthony Fauci; and the movement for racial justice.
