WardsAuto Equipment Report

Solid-state may be
the big breakthrough
in range, durability and cost the electric-vehicle market is waiting for, but don’t look for that battery technology to appear much before 2028, concludes the just released BEVs, Batteries and the Electrification Future.

Nearly 40% of industry insiders polled by Wards Intelligence for the study believe solid state is the game-changing technology needed to move the needle on BEV sales, and recent press reports suggest solid-state batteries could be right around the corner. But BEVs, Batteries and the Electrification Future concludes full commercialization isn’t likely much before 2025 and explains why another four to five years will be required beyond that to ready solid state for automotive applications.

So where’s today’s lithium-ion technology headed in the meantime? The new report takes a close look at what’s likely with next-generation materials and formulations and who’s making new investments where in Li-ion capacity.

BEVs, Batteries and the Electrification Future also provides extensive line-level detail on OEM BEV product plans, examines BEV and battery market prospects in key regions around the world and details the global regulatory picture that is the sector’s biggest driver.

Download this new report to learn how automaker EV plans are progressing, where battery technology is headed and how battery suppliers are positioning themselves for near-term growth. The report includes:
  • Detailed cost breakdowns of today’s EV battery technology and forecasts for the future

  • The Wards Intelligence Strategic Report Card on which automakers are best positioned for the BEV future

  • What new materials and formulations to expect in next-gen Li-ion technology that will greatly improve range and reduce charging times, well before solid-state technology is ready for commercialization
