PICKS OF THE WEEK Bar Amazonia Bar Amazonia in Lakewood recently debuted a new menu featuring wood-fired entrees and a brand-new batch of inventive cocktails. Stand-out dishes include ribeye burger sliders with crushed potato chips and chorizo with patatas bravas. The cocktail menu gets super creative, including the Jungle Guardian drink that features Illegal mezcal infused with chicharrónes. Amazonia is at 1640 Hopkins Avenue in Lakewood. DETAILS Blue Habanero Blue Habanero in Cleveland’s Gordon Square neighborhood has “snacky” bites like Mexican street corn and chicharrónes as well as a strong street taco and entrée list. Sometimes it’s fun to step outside the familiar with a squash blossom taco or even the tacos huitlacoche. While the menu aptly calls it a Mexican truffle, huitlacoche is an ugly corn fungus with a deceptively luxury taste. Expand with adventure with a margarita flight of three. Or get smokey with mezcal in a mojito, paloma or mezcalrita. Save room for flan. Blue Habanero is at 6416 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland. DETAILS Strip Steaks are having a moment in the Cleveland ether. We’re not about to suggest this Avon oasis – which nestled into the old Henry’s at the Barn a long while ago – has done yeoman’s work on prime cuts of beef for 15 years. Or maybe we just did. In any event, this cozy upscale joint has it all where it counts and a great patio with firepit for weekend diner overflow. Our last Boilermaker ribeye and Waygu filets were melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Strip is located at 36840 Detroit Rd., Avon.
