Benefits back: About 94,000 Louisiana government retirees who also worked in the private sector will immediately begin receiving their full Social Security benefits. And as Mark Ballard reports, that starts off with a lump sum to cover the last 14 months.
Hotel development: Developers are proposing a five-story hotel at 621 Elysian Fields Avenue in the Faubourg Marigny. Metairie-based NOLA Hotel Group will ask the City Council to approve the project Thursday, a scaled back version of one pitched two years ago that is still larger than is allowed. Stephanie Riegel has the details.
What's in a name? The Jefferson Parish Council has shot down a proposal to change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on parish maps. Council Member Jennifer Van Vrancken put the measure up for a vote but failed to get any support. Her colleagues, most of them Republicans, said it was pointless and divisive.
