A free festival of ideas in a rather spectacular setting Ready to see the world around you in a whole new light? Here's a programme of talks, workshops, panel discussions and film screenings — centred on pioneering humanities and social sciences research — that'll inspire you to do exactly that. Welcome to The British Academy Summer Showcase. This annual festival of ideas is totally free to attend and takes place on Saturday 17 June inside The British Academy's stunning Grade I-listed HQ, which overlooks The Mall and St James's Park. Head to 10-11 Carlton House Terrace between 11am and 5pm to learn about the legacy of Windrush, the value of green spaces in cities, and the hidden histories of women (including why so few of them are celebrated by the London Blue Plaques Scheme). There's plenty of hands-on fun too, like the chance to explore the science of storytelling, some music and art-based activities, and a workshop all about magic. All events are hosted by experts in their fields, including British Academy Fellows and other academics, plus artists, musicians, and journalists. It's a real treat for curious minds, as well as for fans of Regency architecture (look out for sweeping staircases, Corinthian columns and ornate stucco).
