After a Formula 1 season of unheralded levels of domination by Max Verstappen and Red Bull it feels like the new rules for 2026 can’t come quickly enough to open the scope for increased competition. Of course, central to the changes are new power unit regulations, with a move to fully sustainable fuel, tweaked turbo-hybrids and eradicating the expensive MGU-H element. But there will be major revisions to the cars too, in a bid to ensure that the racing can be improved. The cars will be shorter and narrower, as well as 40 to 50 kilos lighter, to make them more nimble. And there will also be an overhaul of DRS, with a better mechanism promised to increase the chances for overtaking.
