International network for
contemporary performing arts

As you may know, we have recently engaged in Rewiring the Network, our long-term trajectory aiming to collectively design a more sustainable future for the performing arts.

We have just completed the first phase of the project, which, through consultation exercises with our members, allowed us to have a clear idea of our transitions. It is now time for the next phase, in which we will look into how to implement these transitions and what role we will play in this process.

Here are the latest updates and next steps of the project!
RESULTS OF THE FIRST ONLINE BRAINSTORM WITH MEMBERS
On 19 May, more than 130 IETM members participated in a first online brainstorm session as part of the Rewiring project. In this first exercise, participants broke out into 14 groups and imagined together the preferred sustainable futures on each of the five value frames proposed: human, social, artistic, economic and ecological. The results of the brainstorm activity held on 19 May can be found on our open Rewiring the Network (for the Twenties) Miro Board
In addition to the original frames with the 14 X-curves from all the 14 working groups, you will then find the results of discussions about the future practices clustered and synthetised per value frame: the human, the artistic, the social, the economic and the ecological ones. You can also find a comprehensive radar of all the sustainable future practices here.
Right under the radar with practices, you can find another comprehensive radar about the guiding values in our future vision of the performing arts sector, clustered under five main building blocks: solidarity & connectedness, fairness, diversity, value-driven attitude and publicness & democracy.
NEW BLOG POST: REPORT FROM THE FIRST BRAINSTORM WITH MEMBERS

On our way to the first online brainstorm, we published a series of blog posts in which we explore the past, the present and the possible futures not only for our network but also for the performing arts sector as a whole, through the prism of sustainability. Acting as a report from our first online brainstorm, the final blog post is now out!

Episode 4: Designing sustainable futures for the performing arts
The fourth episode of the series recaps the main objectives of the Rewiring project and introduces the results of the first brainstorm, highlighting the main steps of the transition design process and presenting the future dominant sustainable practices and guiding values drawn by participants. Read it here.
SECOND ONLINE BRAINSTORM SESSION - 5 NOVEMBER 2020

After the first phase of Rewiring the Network, we now have a clear idea of our transitions: in other words, we now know what we want to move away from and which explicit practices and values we want to be core in the future.

On 5 November, we will host a second online brainstorm session where we will start the next phase of our intensive trajectory. As part of this phase, we will discuss how the international performing arts community can implement the transitions and what should be the role that IETM and other accelerators might play in the actual transition process.
The online brainstorm is only open to IETM members and will be moderated by Joris Janssens (IDEA Consult) and Delphine Hesters (Independent researcher, advisor and facilitator).
