We are in full gear getting ready for Colorado Children’s Hospital annual cycling event, Courage Classic. In honor of Parker Caldara, over the years, Independence Institute has raised almost $250,000 for Children’s. A big shoutout to Tracy Kimball Smith who is approaching $100,000! Jon is so excited he has worn his Team Parker cycling jersey every day this week. Please consider sponsoring a rider on Team Parker. Today only, a generous donor of Children’s is matching donations. Each rider must raise $500 to participate and we are hoping our entire team is able to ride in memory of Parker, who sadly lost her battle with cancer just shy of her first birthday. |

This year saw a major legislative milestone for nuclear energy in Colorado, as lawmakers officially passed a bill to include it under the state’s clean energy statutes. Yet that victory only came after a series of defeats in successive years, and still, much hostility towards the technology remains amongst a sizeable contingent of the state’s residents and policymakers. Our Energy and Environmental Policy Center’s new issue paper examines Colorado’s storied and complicated history with nuclear technologies—from being the first state to produce uranium to its bungled management of the Rocky Flats Plant—and analyzes how that legacy continues to inform modern skepticism of civilian nuclear energy production. It also offers a few ideas for overcoming those historical concerns so that the state might once again benefit from around-the-clock clean energy. Click here to read it.

Think one person can’t make a difference? Think again.
Samantha DeVito took a bold step and joined her HOA board—a move many might avoid. But her involvement paid off in a big way: she helped reduce monthly dues by $180, benefiting not just herself, but her entire neighborhood. You can do the same in your community.
Whether it’s your HOA, a local board, or a commission, I am here to help you get started. I will walk alongside you, offering guidance and support every step of the way.
If you live in Jefferson County, they are accepting applications for boards and commissions now through July 29.
Ready to get involved? Reach out to me at kathleen@i2i.org to set up a coffee and conversation.
Let’s take back our communities—and Colorado—one board at a time.

Devil's Advocate with Jon Caldara is a current events show not to be missed. Each week it features lively - and sometimes heated - debates between elected officials, journalists, activists, concerned citizens, subject-matter experts, and hard-pressing host Jon Caldara, president of the Independence Institute. Jon is not afraid to express his "free-market" views, and his guests are not afraid to take on those opinions. It all makes for an informative, lively public affairs program. |
