NATIONAL: STEM Expo, Canada’s largest youth STEM outreach and promotion event, will take place virtually from May 18-20, 2022, as part of the Canada-Wide Science Fair. The expo is expected to draw more than 50,000 online participants. The event is free for all attendees and will be hosted on the ProjectBoard platform powered by engineering.com. Creative agency emc3 has hired four new team members following the company's recent rapid growth. The new employees are Rika Zuniga as senior event producer, Nick Allen as technical manager, Clarke Kelly as senior event producer, and Jane Kang as marketing and events coordinator. CALGARY: Calgary's new event center, which will be built in Victoria Park, recently released new renderings of the proposed design of the arena. Construction is expected to start in January, with local firm Dialog and global firm HOK handling the design. The project is expected to cost over $608 million and is being partially funded by the City of Calgary and the Flames ownership. TORONTO: Plans for the upcoming eSports, entertainment and hotel complex at Toronto's Exhibition Place have been revamped following criticism. The main change to the OverActive Media-owned venue is to the 7,000-seat stadium, which will now have a gently sloping green roof rather than the previously announced rounded top, along with other minor changes to the hotel complex. The project is expected to be complete in 2025. VANCOUVER: The Social Diversity for Children Foundation (SDC) will present this year's Concord Pacific Once Upon a Shine Gala on Nov. 6 at the Westin Bayshore. Tickets are on sale now. The event will allow children of all abilities to showcase art, music or other talents up on stage. SDC will also hold an auction and raffle items to raise funds directly for the foundation.
