Waymo says data shows its robocars are safer than human drivers |
With many still uncertain about the viability of driverless cars, Waymo believes its data shows that its autonomous technology can improve road safety |
Driverless vehicles operated by Waymo were 6.7 times less likely than human drivers to be involved in a crash resulting in injury, and 2.3 times less likely to be in a police-reported crash, according to data published in a peer-reviewed study by the Alphabet-owned company.
Waymo’s research covers 7.1 million miles driven by its fully driverless robotaxis in three cities — Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
The study comes as the autonomous-vehicle sector faces intense regulatory scrutiny following a series of on-road incidents involving Waymo rival Cruise, the worst of which involved a Cruise driverless car coming to a halt on top of a woman immediately after she was hit by a human-driven vehicle in October ... |

Apple is aiming to launch its Vision Pro headset “by February,” according to reliable Apple tipster Mark Gurman.
The tech giant unveiled the $3,499 mixed-reality headset to great fanfare in June, saying at the time that it would launch first in the U.S. in "early 2024."
Since then, reports have suggested the headset would land in Apple Stores in March, but in a Bloomberg report citing people in the know, Gurman said Apple is now “ramping up production ... setting the stage for a launch by February.”
The manufacturing of Apple’s most significant new product in years has been running “at full speed at facilities in China” for the last few weeks, Gurman said, with a retail launch set to be ready in just over a month from now ... |

A newly announced monitor from LG really grabs the attention with its dual refresh rate feature that can reach up to 480Hz.
The UltraGear 32GS95UE is a 4K OLED monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, but you can switch to a 1080p resolution with a 480Hz refresh rate with a single click. You can map the function either to a hotkey or a directional switch on the joystick, allowing you to swap between high-res cinematic gaming or competitive settings quickly.
Besides what promises to be impressive picture quality, the monitor also offers an ultra-fast 0.03 millisecond Grey-to-Grey (GtG) response time for an even smoother, cleaner image.
