| | The new Year 1 Assessment focuses on the sounds children must know to pass the Phonics Screening Check and helps you identify: Sounds that need teaching or reviewing in class time Children who need more practice and/or one-to-one tutoring Speed Sound cards to send home for practice. Use it to check progress in December, March and May of all children in Year 1 and children in Year 2 re-sitting the check. This assessment is in addition to half-termly assessments for grouping children and will also be available on the School Portal next week.

| | We have a new training for the early stages of Read Write Inc. Phonics, designed especially for teachers and teaching assistants working in Reception. Ideal whether you are new to Read Write Inc. or teaching at an established school and need a refresher.
The trainer will focus on Set 1 and Set 2 Speed Sounds, the Ditties and early Storybooks, explore YR organisation and discuss ways to engage parents.

Fully-funded PD in Phonics and Early Reading for RI and below schools - normal cost £14,700 |

| | | Schools in your area, MAT or cluster may be eligible for two years of training and continuing support, worth £14,700, fully funded by the Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund. Schools must be rated Ofsted 'Requires Improvement' or 'Inadequate' to qualify and located in Opportunity or Priority Areas. This offer is available to schools who have not received Read Write Inc. in-school training or Development Days in the last two years.
The two-year CPD programme includes two days of whole-school Read Write Inc. Phonics training, two days of literacy leadership training for the Headteacher and Reading Leader, 16 in-school Development Days and 19 days of supply cover.

| | Available January 2018, the new Read Write Inc. Phonics Nursery Pack contains resources to teach phonics and develop vocabulary. It provides nursery staff with the tools they need to ensure every child learns to read confidently, right from the start.
The new resources can be purchased individually or in a pack containing a Nursery handbook, resources for teaching the Set 1 Speed Sounds (flash cards, picture cards and a sound-picture frieze), a Fred Frog toy, Nursery Green Word Cards and Ten Sound Blending Books. They have been trialled with children in Read Write Inc. schools and include specially written advice for parents and carers.
