South Carolina trails Missouri, Alabama, Kansas and Wyoming as the state with the largest pyrotechnic purchases per capita. States and territories with the lowest firework purchases include Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Georgia and North Carolina.

Cotton breed returns to S.C. for first time in 100 years

Using genome or DNA sequencing, Clemson University’s genetics team created the “highest-quality DNA sequence” for cotton crops as the school’s geneticists seek to develop varieties resistant to climate change and other pests. The team is also studying what breeds best suit the state's climate, including a variety that disappeared from the stae in the 1920s.
