Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Safeguarding Parental Rights
Watch here
Schools exist to educate our children, not indoctrinate them. Sadly, radical and secretive gender policies have shut parents out of the conversation and broken their trust.
This week, I introduced the Parental Rights Over the Education and Care of Their (PROTECT) Kids Act to protect the rights of parents by preventing schools from concealing information about students’ gender. This bill would restrict federal funding for any elementary or middle school that allows students to make any life-altering decision regarding gender and sex without the consent of their parents.

School Choice Caucus Breakfast
Families throughout the nation deserve the ability to choose education opportunities that work best for their children. That’s why I founded the School Choice Caucus, to advance education options for all children.
Washington bureaucrats and Democrats believe a “one-size-fits-all” approach is the way to solve the education crisis in our nation—this couldn’t be further from the truth. This week, I hosted a School Choice Caucus Breakfast with Congressman John Moolenaar (R-Mich.) and former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, to discuss ways to expand education freedom and opportunity to all students.

Stopping Scams Against Seniors
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that our nation’s senior citizens — many of whom live on fixed incomes — lost over $1 billion to scammers in 2021. As Ranking Member of the Senate Aging Committee, I held a hearing this week with Chairman Bob Casey (D-Pa.) to examine how we can combat these crimes. The committee also released its bipartisan Fraud Book in English and Spanish at this hearing.
Senator Casey and I are working together to help seniors avoid scams and to stop scammers in their tracks.

Spilling the #SCSweetTea on a Local Family Business
This week, I am spilling the #SCSweetTea on the Mays family! The Mays are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Mays Driving School LLC.
The Mays family says that David “Big Boy” Mays’ passion for his family and serving others has driven this company since its conception. Determination, perseverance, and serving others makes the world go ‘round! Join me in congratulating Evelyn Mays and her family for 50 years of success in Orangeburg. Building a business is already a cause for celebration, but creating a legacy is even better!

Sincerely,
