The American P&I Club announced a new initiative aimed at preventing injuries caused by slips, trips and falls, the leading source of injuries on board ships. It includes two related case studies to raise awareness of the hazards associated with slips, trips and falls.

The ISWAN Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme has issued an updated "Good Practice Guide for Shipping Companies and Manning Agents – humanitarian support of seafarers and their families in cases of armed robbery and piracy attack."





UK MCA advises how to achieve Small Vessel engineer qualifications

UK MCA has issued marine information note on Small Vessel engineer qualifications in order to set out and explain the regulatory requirements regarding the implementation of training elements applicable under Chapter III and Article IX of the STCW Convention and Code.





Maintaining a healthy diet on board

Claims related to illness have been frequently notified to the Shipowners P&I Club, with the number of claims reported remaining steady in number over the last five policy years. The Club partnered with the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) and issued guidance on maintaining a healthy diet onboard merchant marine ships.

ABS Group has signed an agreement with DroneView Technologies to deliver joint aerial wind turbine and equipment inspections utilizing sophisticated drone technology as a cost-effective solution.





Polish Register of Shipping launches new ERC

Polish Register of Shipping has launched a new service of quick advice to ship-owners in emergency situations, called Emergency Response Center (ERC). The service consists of fast-consulting activated in emergency situations that may encounter ship and its crew.


 



Bridges refit on Hollan America Line cruise ships

Radio Holland has successfully completed two major bridge refit contracts on behalf of Holland America Line under very tight deadlines. These bridge retrofits carried out by Radio Holland USA on Holland America Line’s cruise ships Oosterdam and Prinsendam, followed refit work on M/S Noordam and Westerdam in 2014 and 2015.





Imports climb at port of Long Beach

The Port of Long Beach says that rising imports fueled higher container traffic at the port in June, leading to a 3.4 percent overall volume increase over the same month last year.
