Hello, hello! This is Terrin Waack checking in for the Saturday edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. The date is April 29, 2023. The second and third rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft concluded Friday. The Saints walked away with two picks, with each side of the ball being addressed. Let's get right to it and share a little bit about both players. -- Round 2, No. 40: Notre Dame defensive end Isaiah Foskey. The 6-foot-5, 264-pounder set the school record for career sacks with 26.5 in four seasons. He had 11 in both his junior and senior years. Foskey is excited for the opportunity to learn from Saints veteran defensive end Cam Jordan. Foskey: “The Saints picked me because they know they can put me anywhere and they know I’m a disruptive type of defensive end. That’s what I try to do. Because sacks aren’t good enough. If I get a sack, then I’m trying to go for the ball. Get me on the field, I’ll cause havoc.” -- Round 3, No. 71: TCU running back Kendre Miller. The 5-foot-11, 215-pounder was a one-year starter who managed to rush for 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns in that single season. An injury prevented him from playing in the national championship game and participating in the NFL scouting combine. But Miller should be 100% by training camp. Miller: "They're going to pick somebody who's going to tuck that rock that is going to run really fast — really, really fast. Everybody didn't see that, but watch the tape. We're going to see during the NFL season what I do." A little more on Miller: Nola.com columnist Jeff Duncan writes that Miller brings size, power and explosiveness to the Saints' backfield. Now, what else did you miss from Friday? -- Here's another take from Duncan: Why first-round pick Bryan Bresee made so much sense for the Saints. -- Speaking of the rookie, there are some very early odds out on the wide-open NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year race. See where Bresee places. -- Also, former Saints offensive tackler Terron Armstead gave a shout-out to Steve Gleason before announcing a draft pick. Watch the moment here. That should be it. Be sure to check out Nola.com's dedicated Saints page to make sure you (or really I) didn't miss anything. The 2023 NFL Draft closes out with Rounds 4-7 at noon Saturday on NFL Network, ABC and ESPN. The Saints have five more picks to make. Unless they work some trade magic. Enjoy your weekend! Waack out. |
