What's making news in New Orleans
By Chad Calder | Staff writer SMOTHERED GOAT: The Saints defense forced three turnovers and sacked Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady three times, overcoming the loss of Jameis Winston to a knee injury in the first half to win 36-27. Trevor Siemian got the job done under center, receivers stepped up when they had to and Mark Ingram electrified the crowd on a handful of inspired runs in his first game back with the team. Even P.J. Williams got to play the hero. And of course, there was dancing. You can find all of our game coverage here. YOU BETCHA: Sports betting got underway Sunday morning at Harrahs, and former Saints QB Bobby Hebert was there to place the first ceremonial bet. The second bet was ... not what you'd think. HOUSING HARDSHIPS: Fannie Mae is foreclosing on five properties owned by Josh Bruno, who has been criticized by tenants and housing advocates for substandard living conditions, allegations Bruno denies. Meanwhile, the homeless encampments under the Pontchartrain Expressway are under pressure from the National World War II Museum, which is planning to use much of that space for employee parking as the attraction and downtown New Orleans come back from the pandemic. IDA'S IMPACT: Two months after Hurricane Ida made landfall, many in South Louisiana are still struggling to return to normal. Reporter Faimon Roberts and our award-winning photojournalists have a look back on the storm's toll. Thanks for starting your day with us. Keep up with the news all day on NOLA.com. |
