Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Thursday, Sept. 22. The Saints hit the practice field Wednesday and all eyes were on Jameis Winston as he worked on a limited basis because of a back injury. Winston was one of seven Saints players listed as "limited" during the workout, reports beat writer Terrin Waack. A couple of key players who have missed time recently were back on the practice field, which was good news for the Saints. I weighed in with a column on the Winston situation, and why he desperately needs a good game Sunday in Carolina. In Alvin Kamara's absence, Dwayne Washington and Tony Jones Jr. saw extended playing time, and both made the most of their increased opportunities against the Bucs, Waack reports. Drew Brees was back in New Orleans on Wednesday for a publicity event, and he offered his two cents on the Saints-Bucs game and the big fracas between the teams. You probably won't be surprised at how Brees saw it. And finally, the NFL heard the appeal from Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans about his role in the bench-clearing brawl between the Saints and Bucs on Sunday and levied its discipline. That's all for today. Our coverage will continue on Thursday as the Saints continue their preparation for the Panthers on Sunday. Thanks for your loyal support and readership. Until next time, Jeff Duncan |
