Dale Crafts favored as GOP primary in Maine’s 2nd District enters ranked-choice count

• Former state Rep. Dale Crafts led the Republican primary in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday as the race to challenge U.S. Rep. Jared Golden in November headed to a ranked-choice count after challenger Eric Brakey conceded.
  
  The eventual winner will go head-to-head with Golden in a district that is a target for national Republicans, since President Donald Trump won it by 10 points in 2016. It is likely that Crafts is that candidate, but the official ranked-choice count in Augusta could take more than a week.

• Former Bangor City Councilor Joe Baldacci narrowly defeated state Rep. Victoria Kornfield for the Democratic nomination for an open Maine Senate seat in Bangor and Hermon on Tuesday in one of the most prominent races in a large slate of party legislative primaries.

Sara Gideon wins Maine Democratic primary to face Susan Collins

• House Speaker Sara Gideon decisively won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate on Tuesday and will face incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins in November in one of the most anticipated races in state history.

• Maine voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly backed $120 million in bonds for transportation and broadband systems that have been stressed by the coronavirus pandemic.
