Sam Bankman-Fried Charged With New Crimes As Prosecutors Detail Illegal Political Deals By BtcCasey Federal prosecutors have added four new criminal charges to their indictment against Samuel Bankman-Fried, the founder and CEO of cryptocurrency companies FTX and Alameda. The new charges include conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitter. Bankman-Fried was already facing charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and securities fraud, among others, following his arrest in December 2021. The indictment alleges that Bankman-Fried "corrupted the operations" of his companies and utilized customer assets for personal expenditures. Additionally, the indictment claims that Bankman-Fried made illegal donations to political movements, which were coordinated through straw donors to conceal their source. Bankman-Fried's trial is set for October 2023. |
