Publix says S.C. Greenwise Markets are too small

The grocery chain is closing both state locations, including one in Lexington which opened at Sunset Boulevard and Saluda Springs Road last December. A company spokeswoman said the 21,000-square-foot stores do not fit the company’s vision.The Lexington and Mount Pleasant stores will close Aug. 29.

Charleston Wine & Food cancels 2021 festival

Organizers canceled the festival seven months out from the original scheduled date. Charleston Wine & Food officials say they plan to work with community partners to create digital content and livestream events over the next nine months.

Greenville company pays SEC for alleged Mexican bribes

The Greenville-based World Acceptance Corp. agreed last week to pay $21.7 million to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, neither admitting nor denying that the company's former subsidiary violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by paying more than $4 million in bribes to Mexican government and union officials.

Former Big Red Box IT manager sentenced to 4 years

William Tye Grisel pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $1 million from the Columbia-headquartered dumpster brokerage firm. The U.S. attorney’s office says Grisel siphoned money from a fictitious search engine optimization company to finance vacations and cars.

Richland County Councilman Chip Jackson dies at 65

Calvin “Chip” Jackson, who also served eight years on the Richland School District 2 board of trustees, died Friday. Jackson was elected as District 9 representative in November 2016.
