State colleges make plans to deal with coronavirus

South Carolina’s two largest universities are dealing with fluid plans in response to concerns about the new coronavirus. Clemson is preparing for the possibility of online classes and the University of South Carolina is extending spring break.

Marine tooling company to open in Colleton County

Charleston Composites Inc. plans to establish operations in Jacksonboro, with an 87,000-square-foot facility expected to open in April. The company will provide advanced tooling for the manufacture of large boats and plans to eventually expand into the aerospace, automotive and defense sectors.

Specialty food company opening Greenville location

Reid’s Fine Foods is making plans to open a Greenville location this summer. It will be the fifth store for the Charlotte-based company, according to a news release, and the first in South Carolina. The specialty food store will be in the One City Plaza downtown.

Irmo ranks as S.C.’s most affordable location in new study

SmartAsset measured factors including home costs and taxes relative to the local median income in areas with a population of 5,000 or more. Irmo, where closing costs averaged $2,555 and homeowner’s insurance $969, topped S.C. locations.

Gift intended to enhance health care training

A retired administrator has pledged $100,000 to fund equipment and technologies at the Greenville Technical College Simulation Technologies and Training Center, creating the Dr. Barbara P. Lassiter STAT Center Lab. The center includes simulated patients so future health care workers can get simulated hands-on training.
