Good morning,

Welcome to your midweek newsletter from The Scotsman.

More alarmingly, Jason Leitch the national clinical director warned the Indian variant “is causing us some challenge and is spreading quicker than we hoped” and revealed his concern Scotland is at the start of a third wave.

Fury over dirty camping in Scotland

This next story stinks.

Residents living around some of the most perfect picture postcard beaches in the Highlands are lamenting an “absolutely horrendous” bank holiday weekend given the influx of visitors and the arrival of “dirty, dirty campers”.

The stretch of beach was overwhelmed with visitors and residents are now calling for an emergency plan from Police Scotland and Highland Council to deal with irresponsible tourists.

How climate change could wipe out iconic Scottish species

Some of Scotland's most iconic species are at serious risk of disappearance as the planet continues to warm as a result of climate change, according to a new report.

The study examined the effects on the environment if temperatures rise more than 1.5C above pre-industrial levels and found one in nine of Scotland's animals and their habits are under threat of extinction.
