Students Go Behind-the-Scenes at the LA Kings Green Game

Last week, we brought 30 students from our programs to the LA Kings Green Game at Crypto.com Arena! High schoolers who attended got exclusive backstage access and saw firsthand how AEG, a sports and entertainment management company, is leading the way in sustainability. Students toured the arena’s waste sorting facility, where staff hand-sort materials to prevent contamination. Students also learned about the r.Cup program that reuses beverage cups to reduce waste. They came ready with thoughtful questions for AEG representatives, eager to understand how environmental responsibility fits into large-scale events. One LA Kings staff member said it best: “You don’t have to work in sustainability to be sustainable. You can bring it into whatever job you do.” That message resonated deeply with our students. After the tour, our Grades of Green community got to cheer on the Kings as they skated to an exciting win!

Vanquish Media Group Champions the Next Generation of Environmental Leaders

We’re proud to highlight a new and growing partnership with Vanquish Media Group, a purpose-driven creative agency and dedicated member of 1% for the Planet. Vanquish’s Founder, Chase Friedman, recently shared why supporting Grades of Green resonates so deeply with him not only as a business owner, but as a father and member of his local community.

“This initiative doesn’t just teach kids about environmental challenges; they give them the power to do something about it. From tackling plastic pollution to launching climate action projects, these students are stepping up as leaders. And seeing that firsthand? It gives me hope.”

Vanquish Media Group exemplifies what it means to lead with intention choosing to invest in the next generation and the planet we all share. Their support helps us provide the tools, mentorship, and inspiration students need to take meaningful climate action in their schools and communities.

As partners, we're showing that small, consistent commitments, like donating, sharing, and showing up, can create larger impacts. We’re grateful to Vanquish for standing behind our mission and for helping amplify the voices of young environmental leaders around the world.

How Grades of Green's Growth Sprouted

This week, our team is looking back at how we sprouted growth in student sustainability!

2013
was an important year for the organization as it marked significant growth in its Trash Free Lunch and Youth Corps Program. Through the Trash Free Lunch Program, Grades of Green was able to work at 24 schools to prevent 41,670 bags of trash from entering landfills. On top of that, 43 students from the Youth Corps Academy took action through multiple sustainable events and drove civic change. However, the students didn't stop there…

2014
came around and more schools gained interest in the Trash Free Lunch Program. Grades of Green continued to expand to cities across Southern California including Claremont, Inglewood, and Long Beach. Across the 2014-2015 program year alone, Grades of Green was able to educate and inspire over 16,000 students through the Trash Free Lunch Program. But, other individual students were taking it to the next level…

2015 arrived and students from Grades of Green's Youth Corps Academy started to gain attention from the public. All across Southern California, students were being invited by their cities to present on environmental topics in addition to providing solutions that promoted sustainability. Students in Manhattan Beach had an even bigger impact with students such as Joshua C. who received the South Bay Environmental Hero Award from the City of Manhattan Beach at their 2015 Earth Day event.

2016
continued the significant impact in the South Bay and Grades of Green knew it was time to grow. The organization saw an opportunity to grow their already successful program to schools in Walnut, Compton, Pasadena, and Lawndale. Often waking up at the break of dawn, Grades of Green staff were an extremely passionate group of individuals who did whatever takes to make an impact; and they still continue to hold this passion to this day.

Stay tuned next week for more of our story!
