1. DAYTONA 500 ENDS WITH SERIOUS CRASH: A major crash Monday in the final lap of the Daytona 500 left driver Ryan Newman with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Denny Hamlin won the race for the second consecutive year. NBC: “Newman, who won the 2008 Daytona 500, was placed in a waiting ambulance and taken directly to a hospital. The damage to his Mustang was extensive. It appeared that the entire roll cage designed to protect his head had caved in. President Donald Trump, the race's grand marshal, said he was praying for Newman, whom he called a ‘great and brave’ driver.”

2. IS IT OK TO RECLINE ON A PLANE? AN INTERNET DEBATE RAGES ON: A video posted to Twitter of an airplane passenger repeatedly punching the chair of the woman seated in front of him after she reclined has created the Internet’s latest debate: Is it OK to go back, or is it rude? New York Times: “‘Airplane etiquette is you only recline when necessary, and if you must recline, just put the seat back a little bit to get the comfort you need without encroaching too much on the person behind you,’ said travel industry analyst Henry Harteveldt. Still, he added, the passenger behind Ms. Williams was wrong to keep striking her seat. ‘The person in the seat has the right to recline, that’s the way it is. It may not be fair, but life itself is not fair.’”

3. BEER REVIEWING APP UNVEILS PLAN TO CREATE FESTIVALS AND OTHER EVENTS: Beer rating app Untappd on Monday announced plans to bring user interaction to life with almost a dozen beer festivals that it will host across the country in the next two years. The company—which hired Talia Spera, the former executive director of entertainment at MGM Resorts in Springfield, Massachusetts, to spearhead this effort—tried putting up a live event just last Spring and failed spectacularly. Forbes: “Long lines, a failure to plan for bad weather, and unmet expectations were the most common complaints on social media, and some attendees likened the experience to the now famous Fyre Festival. Nevertheless, Untappd is returning to the site of its original festival—Bank of America Stadium—on May 16 2020, this time armed with a better understanding of how to overcome last year’s shortcomings.”
