Dear Friend,
Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!
Examining the Impact of School Closures
Prolonged school closures have undeniably failed children across our nation; research already shows deeply troubling amounts of learning loss and a mental health crisis. As we get back to normal life after COVID-19, it’s crucial that we understand the long-term ramifications of the pandemic for today’s youth, who will be tomorrow’s leaders. That’s why I introduced a bill with Senators Rubio (R-Fla.), Hassan (D-N.H.), and Casey (D-Pa.) to authorize a comprehensive, long-term study on the impact of school closures on students. Seeking Answers from the Biden Administration
With inflation at its highest level in 40 years, thousands of Americans — including seniors on fixed incomes — are being forced to ration their resources. As ranking member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, I wrote to the Social Security Administration, the Department of the Treasury, and six other agencies within the Biden administration, asking how they intend to address the impact of high inflation. Months later, I have yet to receive that information. Click here to read more.
Expanding Credit Inclusion for Seniors
Nearly 40 million Americans are “credit invisible,” meaning they have little to no credit history. This can leave them locked out of so many financial opportunities, from buying a home to finding a job in many parts of the country. This week, I held an Aging Committee hearing, along with Chairman Casey (D-Pa.), on how we can help seniors and adults with disabilities gain access to our nation’s financial system. Stephen Gilchrist, chairman and CEO of the South Carolina African American Chamber of Commerce, provided testimony. Click here to read more, and click below for my opening remarks.

Protecting All Life
Americans should not be forced to subsidize the abortion industry with their hard-earned dollars. This week, I joined Senator Rubio and 31 of my Republican colleagues in moving to overturn a Biden administration rule that allows taxpayer dollars to fund abortion procedures. Every life is valuable, which is why I will always strive to protect the vulnerable among us — born and unborn.
Sincerely,
