| News Releases Undocumented immigrants contribute $235 million in Utah taxes each year Immigration policies have taken center stage in public debates this year, but much of the conversation has been driven by emotion, not data. A new in-depth national study from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy aims to help change that by quantifying how much undocumented immigrants pay in taxes â both nationally and in each state. In Utah, undocumented immigrants contributed $235.1 million in state and local taxes in 2022 â a number that would rise to $292.5 million if these taxpayers were granted work authorization, according to the study. (Read More) Senate passes Romney-sponsored legislation to protect youth from online harm The U.S. Senate today passed bipartisan legislation cosponsored by Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) to provide young people and parents with the tools, safeguards, and transparency they need to protect against online harm to minors. The Senate-passed Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act (KOSPA) includes the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA)âled by Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)âwhich requires social media platforms to put the well-being of children first by providing an environment that is safe by default. The legislation, which is first major reform to the tech industry since 1998, passed by a vote of 91-3. (Read More) Moore introduces bipartisan legislation to drive American leadership in semiconductor R&D Today, Congressman Blake Moore introduced the Semiconductor Technology Advancement and Research (STAR) Act, a bipartisan piece of legislation that will advance U.S. semiconductor research and development initiatives by creating an investment tax credit for semiconductor design expenditures. The STAR Act would allow for a 25% tax credit for semiconductor design research and development expenditures. Semiconductors drive American technological leadership, which is critical to nearly every industry, including defense, health care, energy, agriculture, and transportation.
